WINTER
Many people ask us what is a good time to come to Fairbanks to take advantage of winter activities. Our best resource to answer that would be the Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau (FCVB) web site for both a winter and summer guide at:  http://www.explorefairbanks.com/.  Click here for Winter Carnival, here for Ice Sculpting, and here for Dog Sled Race information.

As a suggestion though, we recomend  coming in march for the great variety of things available to do at that time of year. Plus... it's not so cold that you won't want to get out and do some of these things!
One thing to remember is that the Fairbanks area is very dry with low humidity, especially in the winter. But what this means is that with layering you can stay warm and dry in winter activities. Whether you are snow machining, dog sledding or skiing, even at -20 degrees below zero you can stay comfortable. Your nose hairs will freeze...but you can stay warm!

  • Horse Drawn Sleigh Ride

  • Skiing - Downhill and Cross-Countrycross country
  • Beautiful snow machine country surrounds the Interior area of Alaska.
  • Find a hot tub and watch the northern lights!
  • Visit Santa Claus and get a letter sent to your kids or grandkids.
  • Ice fishing is great on the many lakes and rivers in the interior.
